Chapter 14: Leaving

The question posed by Matt is: “What are some things you love to do that would be easy to invite Sojourners to do with you?”

What do I love to do?
I love to go on walks- I could invite someone to go with me.
I love to drink coffee- and it is always better with someone else.
I might enjoy exercising more with someone else.
I love to take my kids to parks- I could invite another family.
There must be more things I enjoy….

What are those things that you love to do- that you could bring someone along with you?

I love his story of not getting slayed (sp?) in the spirit. That is SO me. I can think of 5 times off the top of my head when I went forward when everyone else did for something or other when a leader was to pray over you. And I became invisible at those minuets. They actually passed by me like they didn't see me and I didn't get prayed over. It was always comical to me, and I'd think, wow, it happened again, I'm invisible! I never thought the leaders were being weird or anything, but I always took it as a lesson that I don’t need other people (or more spiritual people) to pray over me to receive blessing or the Holy Spirit or commissioning from Bible College! And I know I’ve experienced God’s more powerfully in my living room or my back yard than in a church building.
I was taught growing up that church was a Holy place, His house, where you should be respectful. Confession: our first year of being youth pastors I actually turned around in church on our Thanksgiving service and told the High School boys behind me to be quiet in “God’s house” AHH! I got a lecture from their mother that night that I will never forget, and now years later, I have to whisper a sorry and hope I’m forgiven for being so…what’s the word? Churchy?

This is one area that I need to work on and not just work on but to look and actually keep on my mind to look for oppurtunity. We try to be a part of our neighbors lives and I am an extreme introvert. There are things I can do with people and we are trying but I need to keep it on my mind and keep reminding myself to work at leaving.

Things I can do:

Football - invite others over, go to others houses, go to a bar...

Play sports with others.

Food- go to other peoples houses for food and invite others over.

My problems seems to be that I just don't have a lot of friends that are not christians and serving the Lord and I don't know exactly how to "get out there".
